Belgrade Streets – Obilicev venac is a street in the heart of Belgrade, only steps away from Knez Mihailova Street. This street and city area were named after a middle age hero Milos Obilic who killed Turkish sultan Murat I in the battle for Kosovo in 1389. Name of Belgrade Streets often contain the word “venac” that indicates that the street has circular shape.

Belgrade Streets – In Obilicev venac is the building of Tanjug – the news agency of Serbia, established by the communist party of Yugoslavia in 1943 with the aim to serve as a propaganda agency for partisans in WW 2.  During War, 1941-1944 in this building was also prison of special police.

Belgrade Streets – At the corner of Knez Mihailova Street and Obilicev Venac is a very famous restaurant “Ruski car” (the Russian emperor) which is a cultural monument.  Now, it is a part of Vapiano chain of restaurants.

This building was constructed after WW 1, between 1922 and 1926, by architects Petar Popović i Dragiša Brašovan. The building was made under the influence of academic mannerism, with elements of neo-Baroque. From its construction till today the building has the same purpose: restaurant and office space on the ground floor, while higher floors are residential.

Residents of Belgrade and many tourists can enjoy many cafes and restaurants along this street.
