Historical Museum of Serbia  – Museums of Belgrade

Museums of Belgrade – Construction of this museum is in tight connection with construction of the National museum (as is case with all museums in Serbia). Archaeology and numismatics were two areas present in this building before the museum was redirected to history and ethnology by Professor Stojan Novakovic.

In 1954, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the first Serbian uprising in the museum was set up an exhibition regarding the First but also the Second Serbian uprising. Afterwards the exhibition was moved to the residence of princ Milos in Topcider.

Finally, in 1963, the Historic museum of Serbia was established as an independent unit, to represent a comprehensive exhibition of the Serbian people in one place. Back then, the museum had only a few ethnographic items.

Museums of Belgrade – Nowadays, Historic museum of Serbia has the duty of collecting and protecting museum materials like: weaponry and military equipment, flags, uniforms, commemorative items, maps, atlases, etc.

Historic museum gained in importance both on national and international level and had many exhibitions in Europe, USA and many other countries in the world. The museum also has its regular publication “Zbornik Istorijskog muzeja Srbije” – Journal of the Historic museum of Serbia.

Museums of Belgrade – Historic museum is in Trg Nikole Pasica 11 Street, and you can visit every day (except Monday) from 10h to 17n. This building was headquarters of the old Agrarna bank, built between 1932 and 1934 by the project of the Krstic brothers. Since 1966 in frame of the museum is also the residence of prince Milos Obrenovic in Topcider.
