The ZOO – Belgrade Zoo

Belgrade Zoo – the Belgrade ZOO was established in 1936 by former Governor Ilic. First residents of the ZOO were: lions, monkeys, wolves, bears, antelopes, peacocks, dears, owls, does, storks, leopards etc.

In the beginning, the ZOO was on 3.5 acres, then it grew to 7 acres and then to 14. During WW 2, the Zoo was bombed twice meaning that almost the entire animal funds was destroyed so the Zoo was reduced to 7 acres again – which is its surface today.

It is one of the rare Zoos in the world that have the white lion enabling this species to reproduce, making it even more special to visit. Important imprint on the Belgrade Zoo left Vuk Bojovic – general manager of the Zoo for 28 years.

Today, the Zoo has over 200 animal species and over 2000 animals.

It can be visited every day of the week, Zoo ticket office works from 08h to 19.30h.
