Belgrade palaces the Old Palace was originally royal residence for the Obrenovic dynasty, while today is the Assebly of Belgrade. It is at the corner of Kralja Milana and Dragoslava Jovanovica Streets, across the New Palace.

It was built in the 19th century between 1882 and 1884, by design of Aleksandar Bugarski in academicism.  Some of the most important events in Serbian history are attached to this palace.

The year when the construction started was the year when Serbia was declared a Kingdom; King Milan Obrenovic signed in this Palace the document of abdication; after The May Coup in 1903, this Palace was the official residency of the Karadjordjevic dynasty. The National Assembly of Serbia was in session here during 1919 and 1920.

During its history the Palace was damaged twice: first time during WW 1 and second during WW 2, during bombing of Belgrade on April 6th 1941. The Old Palace was renovated in 1947. After WW 2 the regiment in Serbia changed so the role of the Palace changed as well.

Belgrade palaces – Old Palace was headquarters of the presidency of the National Assembly, Federal Government when in 1961 got the role it still has.

Its appearance changed in time. The chapel of the palace was destroyed, and the grand hall got completely changed. During socialism in Yugoslavia, at the main tower was a five-pointed star which was replaced in 1997 with a two-headed eagle.
