Military museum Belgrade

Military museum Belgrade – Military museum is at the plateau of the Kalemegdan fortress making Kalemegdan even more beautiful. Museum facility was built in 1924, by order of prince Milos Obrenovic and by suggestion of military minister Sava Grujic.

First exhibition was opened in 1904 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the First Serbian uprising. The museum then was in a modest building near the Roman well. Museum also participated in a Balkan exhibition in 1907 in London and it was a success.

Since the building was destroyed in 1934, King Alexander Karadjordjevic renovates it and reopens it in 1937. Unfortunately, not so long after, museum and its items get destroyed in WW 2, but after it the museum building gets bigger and richer – and is reopened in 1961, by Josip Broz Tito.
