Monument of Vuk – At a very hasty crossroad, corner of Ruzveltova Street and King Alexander boulevard is a monument to the creator of Serbian literature language, ethnographer, historian and one of the most important people in the Serbian history and culture – monument to Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic.

Vuk’s work affected the development of Serbian culture and literature and he set the grounds form development of Serbian literature, language and spelling.  It is his work of collectivism that brought Serbian artistic value closer to the rest of Europe.

He published the first collection of Serbian national poems and the first Grammar of the Serbian language, as well as the first Dictionary (srb: “Rječnik) where the reform of Serbian language was announced. From University in Jena he received the honourable PhD, as well as many similar acknowledgements for similar European academies and educational institutes.  After his death in 1864, Vuks remains were transferred from Vienna to Belgrade in 1897, and he was buried in the Ct’ Michael’s Cathedral churchyard.

Monument to Vuk is a piece of sculptor Djordje Jovanovic, presented on the 150th anniversary from Vuk’s birth. Around the monument is a park dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius, creators of Glagolitic alphabet – enlighteners who spread literacy and Christianity in the 9th century among the Slavs.

Belgrade monuments – The partk is special because it is the only one that preserved its original looks from the first half of 20th century. Since 2006 the park has monument to the two Saints, piece by Macedonian Toma Serafimovski, as well as a monument to the Russian poet Pushkin, presented in 2009.

Near these monuments is the underground railway station “Vuk Monument” – one of the deepest railway stations in Europe. Construction of this station lasted from 1988 to 1995. Belgrade Monuments – This station is an extraordinary architectonic venture, whose interior is rich in artistic pieces in spirit of Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic.
