What to visit in Belgrade – The Church of Saint Sava is the largest Orthodox Church in the Balkans and based on its surface it is still the largest Orthodox church in the world.

Beginning of construction is in 1936, but the foundation of the Church were built at the beginning of 20th century. Construction of tihs monumental object was funded out of charity contributions of the believers and lasted for over 8 decades and still is not fully completed. Its size and beauty are breathtaking, and its unique dome is visible from several parts of the city.

All about Belgrade – The cathedral of Saint Sava is built in Serbian-Byzantine style 4 bell towers at a height of 44 m. The height of the top of the dome is about 70 m, while the main golden cross on the highest point of the temple is 12 m high, which, when added up, gives a total height of 82 m which is admirable.

It is with reason considered to be one of the symbols of Belgrade. The Church covers a total area of over 5000 m2, dimensions 91 m from east to west and 81 m to the north to the south. The domes of the Church are all decorated with 18 gilded crosses, while in the bell towers are 49 bells casted in the most famous Austrian Grassmayr bell foundry.

The Church can assimilate up to 10.000 believers. On the outside the Church is covered in white marble and granite that gives it a very powerful appearance. When you ask us what to visit in Belgrade,it is a no-brainer and this landmarks goes to the top of priorities.
