Partizan Stadium – second largest football stadium in Serbia

Partizan Stadium – Stadium of FC Partizan is the second largest football stadium in Serbia after the one of FC Red Star. Official capacity is 32.710 seats. This stadium is not far away from the stadium of its everlasting rival FC Red Star, near Atokomanda in municipality Vozdovac.

Belgrade stadiums – Length of the stadium is 105 meters, width 70m while from the seats it is 236m x 150m Stadium was officially open in 1949, October 9, with a game between Yugoslavia and France and for a long time it had a name of “Stadium JNA” – Yugoslav National Army as it was owned by it. Issue of ownership is still active and there is a judicial proceeding bewteen the Army of Serbia and FC Partizan.

However, due to safety standards by UEFA, after renovation in 1998 that number was taken down to 32.710 (no standing space). Fans of FC Partizan are popularly called “Grave diggers” (srb. Grobari) and they call this stadium “The Football Temple”. The official team of Serbia play its games on this stadium.

It is also known for parade that was used to be held on May 25th (from the mid 50s to 1987) in honour of the birthday of the former president of SFRJ Josip Broz Tito which was called The Youth Day. On that event, the relay baton that was travellin throughout Serbia for months between thousands of young people, was handed out to “Comrade Tito”. For many years on this stadium was held the traditional finale of the national cup, which was called the “Cup of Marchal Tito” until 80s of 20th century.
